Subject: Please Support S.2634, Complementary and Alternative Health Care bill

Message:

As your constituent, I'm asking you to please support S.2634, the Consumer Access and Right to Practice Complementary and Alternative Health Care bill. S.2634, formerly S.665/H.3660, is in the Senate Ways and Means Committee and I am eager to see Committee Members send it to the floor of the Senate for a vote. I understand you and your colleagues are focused on handling the COVID-19 crisis and I want to be sensitive to that. Yet, I believe S.2634 is in line with that goal given the bill’s potential to reduce the strain on allopathic care providers and boost the economy by supporting small alternative health care businesses in Massachusetts. S.2634 protects consumer access to practitioners of complementary and alternative health care (such as herbalists, homeopaths, holistic wellness coaches, and nutritional consultants, and many others) by exempting them from health care licensing laws under certain conditions. They will be able to provide services without fear of being charged with practicing without a license as long as they (1) avoid a list of prohibited acts (such as the use of prescription drugs or puncture of the skin) and (2) give out proper disclosures listed in the bill. I urge you to support my freedom of choice to use services provided by these practitioners, and to bolster their ability to practice their vocations, by urging Chair Rodrigues to schedule this bill for a vote in the Senate Ways and Means Committee within the current legislative session. The bill is a common-sense solution, already law in eleven other states, that addresses the wishes of tens of thousands of health seekers in Massachusetts using these services. Your support of this bill would be greatly appreciated by me and all the other constituents in your district who rely on alternative health care practitioners to maintain their health and prevent illness. Thank you.
